Life Without You
By Kayla Year 11, Boronia K12 College
I never imagined of a life without you, when I thought of my future, you were there, smiling and giggling through the silent pain you were experiencing. Grief is a strange concept;
it consumes everything that it shouldn’t. I suddenly feel guilty for the simple things of everyday life, eating, laughing, sleeping even feels like a privilege most days. It feels weird to
talk about you in the past tense, because I cannot fathom the concept of you no longer being with us, the terms “you were”, “she was” send chills down my spine as I remember
that your gone, its only been 2 months without you and I still haven’t properly comprehended the fact that I will never see
you again in this lifetime, if I think about it too much I begin to tear up.
Grief sticks around; it’s in the air. It’s on your clothes, every room you walk into, some roads you drive by. It’s everywhere you look, even when you’re trying your hardest
to compress the pain of it all. I still smell you on random days, at the most random times, sometimes I see people who resemble one of your distinct features and it sends me into a
spiral, knowing that I will never see your beautiful face again. On the hardest days, it takes over my body, I shut down and I cannot function just thinking about life without you.
Grief is not for the weak, and I’m proud to say I’ve fought through the heartbreaking pain I’ve endured with losing you. It is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through.
Knowing you was my greatest privilege, it will forever be the one thing I will never take for granted, because you were taken from us too soon, with so much life left to live. I look
up at the sky, especially when you paint us a beautiful sunset, and I think about how you’re doing up in heaven, wondering if you are finally at peace, with no stress of what
will happen next in life. I pray every day that you’re doing okay up there, it brings me peace knowing you’re not alone, that you have loved ones up there with you that you finally
reunited with.
I cannot wait to see you again one day, even maybe in a different lifetime. I love you forever.
