Dream

So there I was, floating into the sunset, flying over crashing waves. I pass by curious birds, close enough to hear the flapping of their wings. I look down and watch the playful dolphins
swim by. I clutch the strings attached to the balloons that hold me up. It felt like a dream. But then it all fell apart. I begin to feel the soft patter of rain kiss my cheeks. The storm clouds
roll in, blocking what was left of the sunshine. Out of the corner of my eye I see a flash of light. I look into the distance and see shards of lightning, followed by the roll of thunder. The
birds flee, and the dolphins dive under the waves. The storm was getting closer. The rain was getting stronger.
POP! POP! POP! I look up and see the piercing rain destroy the balloons holding me up. POP!
One last pop is enough to send me into a spiralling descent. I plunge into the icecold water, sinking quickly into the murky depths. I try to swim but all my attempts fail. My vision
blurs, my movements slow and I start to lose consciousness. The last thing I see is a blinding light creeping closer.
I twitch awake in bed, panting heavily. My clothes are drenched, sticking to my skin. I throw the heavy covers off my body and sit up. It was all a nightmare… wasn’t it? In the corner of
my room I see a single balloon floating with a note attached that reads:
‘YOU‘RE WELCOME!’
