Spring

By Hazel Year 5, (Boronia resident)

Goodbye winter, hello spring
I’ll never forget winter’s cold nights,
Sledding down hills and snowball fights.
Starting the morning with a warming bath,
Then drying all day in front of the hearth.
No more staying inside and playing cards
It’s time to get out and play in our yards.
The sun returns with a large warm smile
First time to put sunscreen on in a while.
It sizzles my skin to a golden tan
I’d better cool down the room with a fan.

As I watch the birds sing along with the breeze
While leaves swish and rustle and trees bend
their knees
Flowers bloom and unfurl, wondering why
They are creeping up to the immense blue sky.
The bugs return buzzing loud and proud
Bees hanging around like a swarming crowd.
Collecting pollen and going back home
Busy at work making honeycomb.
Colourful flowers dance just for fun
They party all day until they are done.
Goodbye winter, hello spring
Thank you for the smile you bring.
