BBCN Young Writers’ Initiative was started in 2023 to encourage young people to develop their
writing capabilities by providing them with a channel to publish their work. It has been providing
cash awards as prizes for published entries for three years, thanks to the generous sponsorship
from Bendigo Bank. By the end of 2026, Bendigo Bank will have provided $6000 in prize money,
all of which has been completely passed back into the Boronia and The Basin communities. Most
of this went to individual students for their contributions, and some to the schools supporting
their writing development. Several of the award winners have gone on to publish other writing
through other programs.
This month is the first month that we have not received a submission since the program began.
We are not sure if this is because we have some technical issues with our submissions site (being
fixed) or because students have lost interest in the initiative. We are contemplating whether to
continue the program into 2027 or not, and would love to hear your opinion.
